MTB in the Foreste Casentinesi Park
Itinerary: Tredozio, Scarzana, San Benedetto in Alpe, Passo del Muraglione, Premilcuore, Portico di Romagna, Villaggio Monte Busca, Tredozio
An adventure for off-road enthusiasts. The real attraction of this itinerary is undoubtedly the Foreste Casentinesi National Park, an enchanting protected area that extends between Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany. Perfect terrain for MTB and gravel bikes, the route winds through the park’s fir and beech woods and some characteristic villages in the Forlì-Cesena area, including Premilcuore and Portico di Romagna. The more than 2200 m of positive altitude gain to be faced will surely be rewarded by the beauty of the views and the charm of the discovery of real natural treasures, such as the Cascatelle dell’Acquacheta (Acquacheta Falls) and the Cascata Urlante (Screaming Falls). In the hot months it will be hard to resist the temptation of a dive!
Curiosities
The Verna Sanctuary
Located in the heart of the Foreste Casentinesi National Park, the Sanctuary of La Verna is one of the most important spiritual sites in Romagna. It is in fact the hermitage built by St. Francis of Assisi on Verna, the mountain received as a gift from Count Orlando Cattani after his sermon in 1213 in San Leo. Perched on a breathtaking cliff and embraced by a forest of fir and beech trees, the Sanctuary of La Verna is one of the most evocative places in the entire national park.
